Local Kitchen and Winebar

January 24, 2011 by Nina

On Saturday night we rode around on the streetcar until we found a restaurant that looked nice to stop at. When we stopped at Local , which was hopping. The atmosphere was dark and loud. We were told there was a half hour wait and that we should wait at the bar next door. We thought this was odd, but realized it’s probably owned by them. The bar had meats hanging from the ceiling and nice wooden benches.  After we had ordered a drink the bartender asked if we could sit somewhere else, then they forgot about us so that by the time we sat down we were one of the last people there. We both wanted to order the tortellini, but the waitress said they only had enough for one small portion. Soon the atmosphere seemed less beautiful, being that loud bar music was playing in juxtaposition to the intimate lighting.

Julian ordered the Ziti and pomodori with basil and peperoncio, which seemed homemade, but the sauce was just as plain as tomato sauce with little taste. It would have been simple for them to add something to this unembellished dish which would have made it much better. I had the small portion of Apple, squash and goat cheese tortelloni with wild mushrooms and rosemary, which consisted of four tortellini, costing $3 a piece.
