Frank Pepe

July 8, 2011 by Nina

The Yalees and I went out for Pizza here and they were excited for me to try the infamous pizza. We waited in line for at least half an hour, then about the same once in the restaurant. The ambience in that of a typically overrated restaurant–loud, dirty, horrible service. And I hate horrible service. I hadn’t realized beforehand that the pizza is “traditional-style” only (meaning, tomato sauce and cheese with pepperoni, etc), which I am not a fan of to begin with. My favorite pizzas are thin crust with goat cheese, figs, pesto, and/or eggplant–so compared to Figs or Crazy dough, this place is a dive. The pizza is absolutely huge, so for all of us, we got three pies (pepperoni, sausage and onions, and veggie). I tried all, but mostly ate from the veggie because it was the least greasy. Overall, I think it is better than Pizza Hut, but certainly does not deserve such a great rep. I’ve had far better.

No offense, but I find this one kind of obnoxious….still love you though! And Pepe’s!
