The Grill

August 29, 2011 by Nina

After seeing the beautiful houses and historic mansions on Ocean Drive, walking on the cliff walk, and sipping champagne on the terrace of the Chanler with a beautiful view of the ocean, we were in search of a great dinner spot. The only thing we had in mind was: a view of the water. We looked here and at H2O (a tacky bar), so we chose this modern seafood restaurant-there were rocks on the napkins! Designed to make you feel like you’re on a yacht, with yachts moored to the right and left of you, the waiters wearing white outfits made to look like seamen, we felt spectacular. When we first arrived, they told us we could either sit now or at 9pm, which seemed to late to us (it was 5:30), so we sat down. We stayed until about 8, at which the restaurant became a bar-hang-out for packs of women and men ages 30-45, but not many tables were occupied so we wondered if they only told us that they were booked until so late so that we would stay. Either way, I was happy to leave once it got so noisy. Our waiter was the best waiter I’ve ever had because he was both attentive and informative (he knew everything about the wine list as well). He even gave us each two samples of sparking wine! We split the Caramelized Dayboat Scallops with Mascarpone, Arugula Pesto, Polenta & Pea Shoots (mostly because it cost $37). It was excellent, and the green beans were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We were both very satisfied with our experience here.
