  1. 5 Napkin Burger

    July 5, 2011 by Nina

We had planned on kayaking but the weather wasn’t so great, so we took an unofficial walking tour from North End, though Chinatown to Back Bay. We walked around the area with brownstones, shops, and the public library exploring the area and taking in the beauty of Boston. We also went to the MFA for a few hours ($20 for students is pretty steep) to get out of the rain. We were starved, so we ate at 5 Napkin Burger—which I think ordinarily we would have known was going to be bad because of it’s 47% rating on Urbanspoon, but we decided to overlook the low rating because the burgers sounded too tasty. Big mistake. They cost $11 each, with no sides (the most expensive burger I’ve ever had), and mine—the Five Napkin special—was horrible. Not worth the price at all. And the Tuscan fries were average out-of-the-freezer bag fries with rosemary sprinkled on top. I was so disappointed that of all the wonderful places in Boston, I wasted my dinner and $26 on a horrible meal. The funny thing is that when we walked in we asked the servers about the horrible reviews and ratings and they assured us that it was great. After the meal was over, they did not ask us how it was.

  2. The Scoop

Having been around the Berkshires a bit means knowing the best ice cream shoppe. SoCo is the Ben and Jerry’s of Massachussettes, as the Ashley’s is of Connecticut. The Scoop has the best selection of SoCo, including my personal favorite: Banana Brownie. They also have a 20-scoop-sundae-challenge. If you eat the sundae in 20 minutes, you get a $20 gift certificate and fame and glory. I must try this.

  3. Upper Crust

    January 28, 2011 by Nina

Beacon Hill is a haven for great restaurants, and this tiny pizza joint is no exception. Although the atmosphere is that of a pizza place and not a restaurant, their flat bread pies are truly great. Again, the Upper Crust is in the top 5 best pizza’s I’ve had.

  4. Crazy Dough’s

    January 28, 2011 by Nina

I’ve eaten here at least six times. It is the most unique pizza I’ve ever tried. The crust is thick, yet airy and crispy. It is indescribable; you really must try it for yourself. There are a few locations, but I prefer the one in Cambridge, which is in a tiny mall. I love the POTATO BACON CHEDDAR (A sauce-less pie topped with mozzarella, seasoned red bliss potato, smoked bacon, finished with scallions and freshly shredded cheddar.) and BARBEQUE CHICKEN (A sauce-less pie with mozzarella, red onion, diced plum tomato, Italian chicken, scallions and finished with classic BBQ or Honey BBQ sauce.), but hands down my favorite is the NUTTY TUSCAN PIZZA (Their most famous sauce-less pie, topped with oven roasted plum tomato, caramelized onion, roasted garlic, toasted pine nuts, crumbled gorgonzola, finished with fresh from the stem basil and pesto.), which has been voted # 1 Pizza in America. Easily in the top 5 best pizza places ever.

Update: One of the reasons I love to visit Boston is for this pizza. The Fourth of July was no exception. I tried a third location in Back Bay. It was wonderful to enjoy their nutty tuscan along the esplanade!

This very popular Italian restaurant has some of the best pizza I’ve ever had (easily makes it into the top 5)–and you can get two kinds on one pie! Now what’s better than that??
