‘Why I didn’t go there’ Category

Another “why I won’t go here again” post, unfortunately. I’ve been meaning to go here for some time (to stop supporting Starbucks which hurts local businesses like this one, and my wallet). Now that I have, I don’t think I’ll be returning. I ordered a mocha monkey joe version of a frappacino. I asked if they take credit cards and they said yes, but the young guy behind the counter seemed to have trouble swiping my card because he tried three times before giving up and having an older woman try it (five more times). After standing at the counter for literally 15 minutes (my drink melting by the minute), I got so frustrated that I grabbed my card and said forget my order, I’m not waiting any longer. I understand that such things happen, and it’s not their fault, but it was the way in which they handled it that I didn’t like. They didn’t apologize, they didn’t tell me I could sit and wait until they figured it out, and they didn’t offer to give me the drink for free. After I said that I was leaving, the older woman asked if I wanted the drink and I could come back tomorrow to pay them back for it (HAH!). I left feeling really annoyed. It’s not necessarily their fault. It’s more the fault of the manager/owner who clearly did not train their staff properly/hire the right kind of people. To top it off, I’m pretty sure the manager/owner was standing right behind me, not helping at all. What a disappointing experience.

Update: This was a really frustrating experience. But I will tell you that I went here again. I think normally I wouldn’t have given them another try, but I work really close by and I like supporting local businesses, so I thought what the heck. I definitely didn’t try using a credit card, and the service was friendly enough. I feel slightly disappointed in myself, since they really were so rude, but at least I’m not supporting big business.

Another “Why I wouldn’t go there.” My mom and I wanted to peek in this restaurant (mostly because this woman’s dessert looked so good and I wanted to ask a waiter what it was!) and the wait staff was so incredibly rude that I would never go there no matter the price-upholding true French stereotypes. He acted as though it was so horrible we would walk through the door, like my mom and I were committing some sort of crime by considering sitting down. He asked what we wanted, and when my mom told him we wanted to look at the menu and thought we might come here a little later, he scoffed and in a very rude manner told us there was a menu outside. Don’t worry, we told them off.

  3. Largo

When deciding which restaurant to go to (between the bistro we had already been to for breakfast or a nice restaurant across the street), we had to take into account the decor (because the food was very similar). Though the other restaurant, Largo, was also highly recommended, they were having Jazz night and there was a cover charge even if you were having dinner. I didn’t like that one bit. Also, the decor was quite tacky (giant sofas). I think eating good food and loud music, noise, conversations don’t mix. One should be able to experience the food with every bite, without distraction. Needless to say, we went back to Bistro Les Bossus and had a wonderful meal.

  4. Koffee

    July 25, 2011 by Nina

I had been enjoying going to this local coffee shop. Mostly, I like supporting local rather than corporate, but I also enjoyed the atmosphere (I would spend the mornings sitting in the park behind their shop, or on one of their tables in the sun, eating one of their cute petite-sized muffins), but since a recent incident, I have stopped going. Julian and I went in (I was so excited to show him my new hangout) and a woman, not serving us, behind the counter was incredibly rude, so we left in a huff and I decided not to go back ever again, and have since chosen Willoughby’s as my morning hangout spot.

  5. Why I Didn’t Go There

    July 20, 2011 by Nina

I’ve decided to add a weekly column to my blog. It will be called “why I didn’t go there” and will include reasons why I decided against going to a restaurant, a complaint about a restaurant and why I won’t go there again, or how I knew a restaurant would be bad based on factors such as décor, customers, music, etc. I will post these each Monday morning.
