  1. The Southern Kitchen and Bar

    April 5, 2011 by Nina

After exploring Asheville, we were looking for a good lunch spot, but because it was 3pm, we didn’t have many options. We noticed that The Southern Kitchen and Bar had nice outdoor seating and a surprisingly enticing menu, so we ate here. Normally I am resistant to eating bar food, but this was excellent. My salad and Julian’s Sweet Potato Grilled Cheese were both refreshing, and for the price—a real steal. This was a great find for a warm day.

  2. Double Decker Coffee & Company

    April 2, 2011 by Nina

While walking around we stumbled upon a [parked] bus café (yes, I do mean the café was inside a bus). It was a charming red bus from England, parked on the corner with tables outside and second floor seating. There are mostly breakfast options—like pastries—but also milkshakes. Since we were still pretty full from Sunny Point Cafe & Bakery, we just got a Chai Milkshake—what a great idea!—which was delicious. The only thing I will mention is that the bus gets really hot inside, so you might want to grab something for the road or sit on the patio. But it’s a fun experience and the milkshake was unique!

  3. Sunny Point Cafe & Bakery

    April 1, 2011 by Nina

After arriving in Asheville, and spending the night in our car, we ate at Sunny Point Cafe & Bakery. It was quite busy at 9am on a Friday and the décor was very charming. I ordered Heuvos Rancheros (Savory black bean cakes served with Snow Creek chorizo sausage, feta cheese, roasted tomatillo salsa, and herb tossed red skin spuds topped with two free range eggs any style, cilantro crema, and crispy tortilla strips) and Julian ordered Goat Cheese Scrambled Chili Eggs He commented saying they were the most flavorful eggs he’s ever had. My food was great as well. That’s all I have to say.
