  1. El Toro

We arrived in Izamal, a beautiful yellow town, and had some icecream. We had the best tour of the church, all in Spanish (which none of us speak), so we did a lot of head nodding. After we built up an appetite, we asked a tourist police officer (not my idea!) for advice as to where to eat. He VERY excitedly lead us to a restaurant across the street, stopping traffic along the way. I was skeptical, but as it turns out it has been voted #6 in restaurants in Yucatan by Lonely Planet. And it actually was fantastic. One of my favorite meals on the trip. The Enchiladas were to die for.

By far my favorite hotel experience ever. If Cancun was the worst part of the trip, this was definitely the best. We took a sunrise walk and climbed on the cliffs behind the restaurant and had a terrific view of the waves crashing on the rocks. With our room located right near the beach, and the restaurant literally on the beach. Who doesn’t want to eat delicious tacos with their toes in the sand? And the food was good. Really good. The breakfast (Latte and Huevos Rancheros) was pretty disappointing though.
