  1. Pete’s Famous Restaurant

    November 23, 2011 by Nina

I did not have high hopes for this diner-like restaurant. After waiting at Bread Alone for an hour for my friend to arrive, I was groaning by the time we walked in here. But boy was I wrong. I had one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had. It was an extra thick Oreo one, and it also came with extra (that’s how you know it’s really good!). My salad was fresh, large, and satisfying. I felt like the value of my meal was high. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised.

  2. Terrapin Bistro

    March 2, 2011 by Nina

The Terrapin has been one of my favorite restaurants since I went there for Valentine’s Day three years ago. I’ve always enjoyed their tapas selection and meat options. However, when Julian and I went to the Bistro, we both left disappointed. We ordered the fries, a Goat Cheese and Mushroom Quesadilla, and Nachos. Now, I understand these aren’t exactly gourmet dishes, but we expected more. The nachos were okay, and the fries were as good as always (although I do find it strange they were put the plate with sauce on top so that the fries are squished), but the most disappointing thing was the quesadilla. I’ve had the duck and mango one and it’s excellent, so I thought this would be too, but it was awfully soggy (I can’t imagine why). I think perhaps the Bistro side isn’t as good as the menu, and would recommend the tapas and more expensive dinner entrees (and NEVER pasta).

  3. Bread Alone

    February 28, 2011 by Nina

I want to start out by saying I am not a fan of Bread Alone; as far as I’m concerned the only good thing about this café is that it is locally owned. I have never found the people working there to be pleasant, nor the food to be worth the price. The bread is sold in over 50 places from Albany to NYC, so it’s pretty popular. The pastries are always old, but I used to like the chocolate torte. However, this time when I had it, it was not very good. I think the biggest problem is how overpriced the food is.

  4. Aroi Thai Restaurant

    January 28, 2011 by Nina

I went here with Julian’s family and although the seating is nice in the summer (a patio outside), the food was below average. Certainly not the best Pad Thai I’ve had. There are better restaurants in Rhinebeck, like The TerrapinGigi’s, or Arielle.

  5. Gigi’s

    December 29, 2010 by Nina

Julian and I went to Gigi’s yesterday and ordered the parmesan fries and cheese plate as appetizers and the BARBINA salad (Organic Baby Greens, Roasted Beets, Butternut Squash, Mushrooms, Coach Farm Goat Cheese, Toasted Walnuts and Gigi Sherry-Shallot Vinaigrette) and ANGOLOTTI (Butternut Squash and Mascarpone Filled Ravioli, Parmesan, and Crumbled Amaretti). The fries were warm and crunchy, but with less parmesan than they usually come with and the cheese plate came on a wooden cutting board with grapes, apple butter, and almonds. Though it would have been nice if each cheese came with a label. The butternut squash ravioli was heavenly and the salad was nicely prepared with an added touch of walnuts that was diced into small pieces. I don’t much care for beets, but they were easy to avoid. The dressing was also quite light and delicious. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Note: the BIANCA skizza (Coach Farm Goat Cheese, Mozzarella, Gigi Fig Jam preserve, Pear, Arugula and White Truffle Oil) is also a unique pizza that is a must try!
