I surprised Julian for his birthday this weekend, and planned a couple of restaurants along route, but the GPS ended up taking us through Vermont (a different route than Google Maps was taking us), so we ended up in Franklin, New Hampshire without any idea of where to eat. The woman at the Bed and Breakfast that we were staying at had said there is an Italian restaurant or an Asian restaurant in town. This didn’t sound promising, and the town didn’t look any better.
I found this to be an exceptionally unattractive Asian restaurant, in a pretty run-down town, so we were incredibly surprised at how good the food was! We ordered the Triangles (Deep Fried Egg Roll Skin Stuffed with Curried Potato and Asian Herbs, Served with Sweet and Sour Sauce), Golden Bags (Diced Potatoes, Onions, and Green Peas Wrapped in Wonton Skins and Fried until Golden Brown, Served with Sweet and Chili Sauce), Tom Kah (Coconut Soup), and Crispy Pad Thai (spicy). I expected the triangles to be the packaged samosas that they typically serve in Indian restaurants, but they were wonderfully flavorful! Their savory spices complimented the Golden Bags’ crispy fried sweet goodness well. I highly recommend both of these appetizers. The soup had freshly chopped cherry tomatoes in it (I would have never guessed tomatoes would taste good in coconut milk), demonstrating how this restaurant continued to surprise up with how fresh the food seemed to be! Also, they give you a fresh-cut pineapple for dessert! This experience can be summed up as very unexpectedly excellent!
