The New American Grill
October 18, 2011 by Nina
After spending the night in Londonderry Vermont and going to Taylor Farm to buy two cheeses, we were in search of a nice breakfast. Our prospective places didn’t seem promising, and we had asked the woman at the counter at the farm and she recommended the “american grille right down the road,” which sounded even worse. When we went to check it out, Julian didn’t even want to get out of the car, but I thought it looked cute, so we went in to see a menu. The menu honestly didn’t sound that interesting, but I still wanted to stay (mostly because on the chalkboard it said that they could cut their muffins in half, put them on the grill with butter, yum). I (as usual) didn’t know what to order, so I asked the waitress for some recommendations. She said “everything is so good!” enthusiastically, but then actually gave me some of her favorite options as well. I thought she was a very pleasant waitress. Per her recommendation, I ordered Max’s Hash (Sautéed Onions, Peppers, Mild Chorizo Sausage & Potatoes Smothered with 2 Eggs Over & American Cheese which I of course changed to Cheddar) and Julian ordered, again the other thing I wanted, Corn Flake Dipped French Toast. Since I was little, I’ve hated maple syrup. I’ve never ever put maple syrup on my pancakes or french toast (which is why I only order chocolate chip). This is a problem for Julian because he loves french toast, so he usually sort of puts a piece to the side so that it will stay dry when he slathers the syrup on his plate. I was too busy sticking my face in my dish that I didn’t even try Julian’s until I was almost full. For some strange reason Julian offered me a bite of french toast that was covered in syrup, and even stranger, I said okay. I ended up absolutely loving it. I don’t know if the syrup was extra good, if I’ve changed and now like syrup, or if it just so perfectly complimented the crunchy french toast, but it was heaven. They call it the best french toast, and it really is. Again, I was so happy with our meals!Category Breakfast/Brunch, VT | Tags: breakfast in Londonderry vermont, breakfast in vermont,Corn Flake Dipped French Toast,Londonderry,Max's Hash,Mild Chorizo Sausage & Potatoes Smothered with 2 Eggs Over & American Cheese,Peppers,Sautéed Onions,Taylor Farm,The New American Grill,VT | 2 Comments

Taylor Farm
September 6, 2011 by Nina
We love stopping at cute farm stands, so when we saw this we had to stop. It was so much cuter than I ever could have guessed. When we stopped there were chickens running around, and a duck that is so tame he comes right up to you! He was following the farmers around. It was out of a children’s story. They sold all kinds of home-made gouda (maple smoked, aged, cumin, etc) and other locally made cheeses. We tasted three cheeses, and like Julian said, we’ve never had three cheeses in a row that we both loved so much. We ended up buying the maple smoked gouda (it voted first place by the American Cheese Society) and Vermont Sheppard. We walked around and saw the cows, tractors, a donkey, horses, and piglets! The piglets weren’t fenced in, but when we walked over, they all ran away. We waited a while, and one started to walk towards us, and they all followed, until they were nibbling at my feet! It was so much fun. I hope to live on a farm like that one day.
